KZN Designers Wow The Crowd @ SA Fashion Week!

We love local new talent, and it’s always a breathe of fresh air seeing the upcoming designer’s aesthetic and design vision being brought to life. As supporters and developers of young designers we ever look forward to seeing the beautiful creations they work extremely hard on for fashion week.

This past Friday we had exclusive front-row seats to the autumn/winter 2016 shows at SA Fashion Week. An unforgettable event/show that presented Nicole Hoyer, Mapitso Mokhele, Sandile Duke Mngadi, Vanessa Pillay on ramp, and Khanyi Khoza, with Syabonga Freddy Mngadi as additions to the buyers lounge.

IBANATHI FOR HOMBRE

It really is not rocket science but rather is a simple challenge that has me taking style inspiration from local designer Vanessa Pillay, who will be showcasing at the upcoming South African Fashion Week. Her brand which is named "Hombre" tends to be hard and grungy with a lot of leather but yet plays with delicacy where it can.

After getting my brief I ran to wear this ox-blood or maroon leather jacket (You fashion people tend to change the name of this color a lot alas I refuse to keep up) .The color and texture of the jacket has worn in over the years and tends to remind me of an era of Rockers and James Dean's ,where all they wore was leather. The knee ripped skinny jeans have become a firm fixture in my closet, I blame it on my never ending romance with men with good knee's. Paired with a long lazy tee and trench to keep Durban spring winds at bay I found myself heading out into the night.

I will be doing this style challenge for this entire week ,so keep an eye out for the images of both the outfits and the media launch I attended . As it is a competition vote for me by liking this picture  on my Facebook and Instagram pages and you could stand a chance of winning tickets to the South African Fashion Week.

NONGCEBO KHUMALO FOR MAPITSO DESIGNS

Nongcebo Khumalo for Mapitso
Mix things up
Inspired by Mapitsos current line for this years SAFW for me her line is a representation of being fearless.
She uses black as her main color and dares to be different with sexy silhouettes that show just enough skin
My interpretation of her line had me in clothes I’ve never worn together before which I wonder why .
The black top is take of her statement black but with some little flirt at the bottom with the design.
The culottes are a vintage find that I explored with, to add a touch of sass I had to wear a cap and the shades as a throw away of colour.
The neutral heals balances of the colours.

A Call To KZNFC DESIGNERS //

KZNFC and KZN Department of Sport and Recreation Sport Awards Fashion Theme.

Initiation to KZNFC Database Designers: Showcase your garments at the 2015 KZN Sport Awards or dress the KZN Netball Team, The Kingdom Stars.

The KwaZulu-Natal Fashion Council hereby invites interested designers on its database to showcase at the KZN Sport Awards or to dress the provincial netball ball team, the Kingdom Stars, for the awards.

On the evening of the awards participating designers and their brands will be formally acknowledged during the course of the awards and will be extensively profiled in the event’s literature and in the lead-up to the event. Designers will also be invited to attend the Sport Awards.

While KZNFC works with the Sport and Recreation department to finalize the technical details of this collaboration, designer interest and support has to be assessed. Nongcebo Khumalo for Nicole Hoyer Designs.
Live a colourful life
Inspired by Nicole’s current line for this years SAFW for me her line is about self expression, bold patterns and a pop of colour.
My interpretation of her line had me in this bold head wrap and black dress.
The turban is for the bold colours that represent being able to express yourself and having some fun.
The black dress draws on a similar silhouette of dresses as part of NHD, and as dark as it might black works with everything.
And for a personal touch of edge I needed to find a New Balance.

Designer's Media Launch

Fashion design may not be seem like a serious practice to the average South African, but from as early as September, We have seen how our 6 selected designers have translate their high fashion craft and hard work to parallel their customers in a way that speaks to the world of fashion and individual flair. Our SA Fashion Week show is now only a few days away, and we have been sitting around tables with a panel of fashion experts, coming up with ideas that would make a justifiable person cringe with anxiety.

Our designer’s media launch transitions our audience into a new season of trust towards local talent, as it is once you’ve met the woman or man behind these local establishing brands that it all comes together and it all starts to envelop more sense. Each designer’s humble demeanour speaks back to the gracefulness and mentoring shown through each collection, also saying volumes about how they exceed their years through the skills in their craft and in thought processes.

Yesterday we hosted our media launch at Benjamin Hotel, letting our province in on the plotting, mentorship and hard work that the designers and experts have put in with the KZNFC team. Behind closed doors is dedication, sweat and… well… beautiful garments. Slowly outlining the story of the craft and watching things take shape.

What an eventful day, bringing creatives together with media to complete further anticipation for SA Fashion Week.
